Thalay Bua Daeng

Nong Han, the largest natural lake of northeast Thailand, is the main source of water for irrigation in agriculture and for use of the villagers living in the locality. Declared a wetland of national importance, Nong Han is also known as “Thalay Bua Daeng”, or the Red Lotus Sea, where water lilies blossom between October and March of every year. Starting from October, the water lilies begin to put out new leaves, and flower buds emerge before fully blooming between December and February and withering and falling in March. The optimum time to enjoy the beauty of the flower-filled lake is from the early morning until 11 am when visitors can enjoy the breathtaking picture of endless water lilies blossoming and blanketing all over the lake, from which the name Red Lotus Sea is derived.

Renowned as “The Land of Dhamma”, Udon Thani is well known for its long history with a world heritage site and home to a myriad of cultural and religious attractions such as Wat Kham Chanot, Wat Pa Phu Kon, Wat Pa Ban Tat, Wat Phra Buddhabat Bua Bok ,Wat Ni Mit Potiyan and Wat Sa Mani. Khiri Wongkot Village, Udon Thani

Surrounded by verdant mountain ranges and shrouded in the morning mist, Khiri Wongkot Village, a small village with the well-preserved traditional way of life, is bordered to the three provinces including Loei, Nong Khai and Udon Thani. The village is 140 kilometres away from the city, offering a wide range of activities such as an adventurous ride on the E-tak car, or a farm tractor, to the remote upstream forest, swimming in the Huai Chang Phlai Waterfall, and enjoying “the jungle lunch buffet”, a country-style buffet which diners sit in a circle with all the delicious food in the middle, including cooked rice in bamboo and food wrapped in banana leaves, before ending the day at homestay accommodation and waking up to be soaked in the breathtaking view of the sea of morning mist.

Making Natural Tie-Dyed Silk Clothes

Ban Chiang Weaving Group was initated by the villagers who made indigo- dyed woven fabrics for their own use and later became widely known. Ban Chiang woven fabrics are a cultural legacy of Thai Phuan who weaved and made their own clothes. Known for handwoven textiles, Thai Phuan inherited the wisdom from their ancestors to create unique valuable clothes with the motif of Ban Chiang pottery which earn the villagers reputation as well as income.

Salt Spa, Kham Chanot, Ban Dung

Ban Dung Rock Salt Pond is the first rock salt pond in Thailand. Rock salt contains many kinds of minerals which moisturise skin. The natural mud from rock salt pond can be used as a mask which is believed to have a medicinal property of reducing the body pain, helping with the blood flow, and healing wounds. It can also be used for bathing and foot spa.
